Namibia Travel Books

Of all the many Namibia travel books available, these are some of the best. I picked them especially from an adventurer's point of view, and hope that it will bring Namibia as a whole into all the homes of people who love nature, the outdoors, traveling and most of all... Africa!

Recently, it is not only Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt that discovered this huge but sparsely populated country in south-western Africa, but also ever more people from all over the world. The contrasting landscapes of Namibia, with its brooding desolate Namib Desert in the west and Kalahari Desert in the east gives it an awe inspiring sense of space to which travelers come to dote upon.

The capital city of Windhoek is a great place to start your trip. It is the travel hub of Namibia and offers good restaurants and nice sights. Swakopmund is a very German town in Namibia. It may be a strange feeling to walk through a German street in the African sun.

Sossuvlei Namibia

And to drink German beer while enjoying the African sun, is something most travelers to Namibia do not miss!

A few other great places in Namibia to explore or read about in Namibia travel books, are:

Sossusvlei (see picture)... located in the Namib desert and host of the world's highest dunes as well as the famed Sossusvlei-lake. When viewed from a hot air balloon at sunrise or from a small aeroplane on scenic flight around the desert, the travellers appreciate why this place is considered a photographer's dream.

Ruacana Falls... bordering Angola in the north-western part of Namibia.

Ruacana Waterfall Namibia

Waterberg National Park... ecologically diverse and rich with more than 200 different species of bird and some rare species of small antelope. This is also an important site in Namibian history since one of the greatest battles between the Herero people and the German colonial forces were fought here at the beginning of the 20th century.

These pictures above were taken by Alta, a Namibian with passion for the country, nature and photography. She has a huge collection of exceptional scenic pictures of Namibia.

For anyone interested in obtaining some of these brilliant images, contact her via e-mail. Thank you so much Alta, for sharing your Namibian pictures with us!

Namibia's popularity as a safari and adventure-activity destination has grown so much that the options available to travelers also increased. This book offers an update of accommodations and activities in game parks and towns with descriptions of guest farms, lodges, and bush camps. The capital of Windhoek is covered in detail, but the main bulk of this exhaustive guide is given to the pristine yet accessible wilderness of Namibia. Some pioneering, self-drive routes with GPS coordinates have been added to this highly recommended guide.

The specific needs of tourists and visitors are catered for in this Travel Map. All the essential information to introduce travelers to each dynamic destination in Namibia with key buildings, places of interest and where-to-stay are pinpointed. Distance and climate charts enable travelers to plan their visits, while stunning photographs conjure up each destination's special atmosphere.

"Spectacular Namibia" shows a country that is at once harsh and extraordinarily beautiful. The photography brings to life the vibrant capital city of Windhoek, the lust waterways of the Caprivi, the dry expanses of the Kalahari and Namib Deserts and the world-famous red dunes at Sossusvlei which rise up from the desert. The cruel sweep of the Skeleton Coast, with the many ships it has wrecked, and the eerie ghost town of Kolmanskop, are also captured together with the abundance of the Etosha-wildlife.
